Standing heart-rate test
A guided, timed orthostatic self-test in the NASA lean style: lie down for ten minutes, then stand leaning against a wall while recording your heart rate at set marks. The guided version needs JavaScript for its timer, prompts and result sheet.
By hand: rest lying down for ten minutes and take your lying heart rate; stand with heels about 15 cm from a wall, shoulders against it; record heart rate at minutes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 of standing. A sustained rise of 30 beats or more above your lying baseline is a pattern worth taking to your GP. If you feel faint, sit down at once; that too is worth reporting. If you have fainted with injury, or get chest pain or palpitations with breathlessness, speak to a clinician before trying standing tests at all.
